A long lunch in a little village, bringing the New Farm community together

Merthyr Village shopping centre is ‘the heart of New Farm’; in a neighbourhood full of culture and vibrancy connected by a real sense of community.

One of the centres most iconic tenants, the family owned and operated New Farm Deli & Cafe, is a well known and much loved local institution, serving up the very best Italian fare for close to 20 years.

Follow was engaged by Merthyr Village & New Farm Deli to reimagine the ‘Funk & Focaccia’ events both clients produced in the 90s, where the young and old partook in food, dancing, singing and making new friends. The result was the conception of ‘A Long Lunch in a little village’ , a marquee event transforming a Merthyr Village carpark into a little Italian village for the day, and inviting young and old to come together and celebrate with family and friends.

The event featured a family style, four-course Italian feast prepared and served by New Farm Deli and paired with wines and aperitifs. Live music and pop up bars kept the party going into the early evening.

With 280 tickets sold in just four weeks, and overwhelmingly positive feedback from both clients and guests, the inaugural event was deemed a success. The marketing & communications campaign for the event was also highly effective, with both the Long Lunch and New Farm Deli receiving widespread media interest from over 15 local media outlets including digital lifestyle, print publications and radio interviews . The official highlights video as clocked up over 5000+ views to date.

Customer satisfaction and positive sentiment towards the concept was so positive, there is currently a waiting list for the 2016 event, which Follow has been re-engaged to produce in May 2016 and grow the capacity to accommodate over 400 guests.

If a picture says a thousand words, how about a video?
