ILLAWARRA Seahawks forward Brad Simpson is almost certain to follow his hoop dreams to the land of hope and glory.

The 198cm Goulburn junior has just returned from a week-long trip to China for the prestigious Nike All-Asia Camp.

Simpson, who has been a revelation in his first year with the Seahawks, trained under the keen eyes of several US-based scouts.

The 17-year-old hopes to be ensconced with an American college team this time next year.

"I'm planning to go to college. I've thrown some interest out there and I'll see what happens," he said.

"The camp was really good. I was one of five Australians and the other athletes were mostly Asian. There were a couple of big, young seven-footers who could play and it was good working with different coaches.

"It was my first time overseas and I wasn't sure what to expect. It was hard living on rice and noodles and it was an interesting experience seeing how a different culture operates."

Simpson has earned rave reviews from Seahawks coach Matt Flinn for his ability to put up big scoring and rebounding numbers in limited playing time with the club so far.

Illawarra will be out to break a two-game losing skid when they host Newcastle on Saturday at the Snakepit.

"It's been a learning experience," Simpson said of his rookie season.

"We're a young side with a bit of NBL experience and I'm sure we can turn it around over the these last six games."
